Is Lieberman a smoke screen?

Jonathan Martin at Politico.com is citing sources that John McCain’s camp has asked Lieberman’s former staffers about Lieberman possibly being McCain’s VP. Martin writes:

Top aides to Joseph Lieberman have reached out to former staffers in recent days with “substantive questions” about the issue areas they worked on while working for the Connecticut senator, according to a source close to Lieberman…

Without saying definitively that the information-gathering was being done to share with McCain’s campaign, this source said “it would be unusual if not in the context of being vetted.”…

Another strong clue is that one of the former aides contacted was Lori McGrogan.

A longtime Lieberman aide, McGrogan served as Research Director on the senator’s 2004 presidential bid where she was tasked with investigating her candidate’s record as well as those of his Democratic primary rivals.

I respect Lieberman’s support for the Iraq war and the War On Terror, but McCain has promised to be a pro-life President, and Lieberman is not pro-life!

Hopefully, Lieberman is a smoke screen for the true VP pick, which could be Romney or Pawlenty.

Come on, McCain. Stick to your promises!

Hot Air

UPDATE 1: Today, as Biden was leaving his driveway to go golfing, reporters rushed up to him and Biden stated, “You guys have better things to do. I’m not the guy.”

Biden was most likely referring to being Obama’s VP. Hey, this could be a smoke screen, too.

UPDATE 2: US News is reporting that Tim Pawlenty has moved to the top of McCain’s VP list.

    Unacceptable.

Hey, I live in Conn., he’s my Senator…and the only non-Republican I’ve ever voted for. The Dem that ran against him was a hard line liberal, and the GOP candidate was a tool. I respect Joe Leib, admire his independent streak, and standing up to his party (I admire McCain for the same reason) but Joe wouldn’t gain Mav any votes. I think all the speculation these past two weeks about “this” veep and “that” veep is ALL a smokescreen.

I won’t believe a thing until McCain announces Crist himself…:-)
